Collection Guidelines

Cleanse skin around catheter site with 0.5% chlorhexidine in 70% alcohol. Aseptically remove catheter and aseptically clip the 5-cm distal tip of catheter directly into sterile container. (NB with Swan Ganz Catheters consider sending two specimens, one from the tip and one from just under the skin). Transport directly to the microbiology laboratory to prevent drying.
